Watch out America! So.... I got my license. It has taken too many trips to the DMV in more than one state. But, finally, I can drive on the roads like normal people.
I freaked out during the written test. The testing machine showed how much I had wrong and I felt like I was on a game show. I started looking around hoping a poster with all the answers would be hanging around. Barely passed that.
Then I had to do the road test. We got in the car, drove down an old back road for five minutes, stopped to listen to cicadas, did a two point turn, reversed about 100 more feet and then drove back. That was it. Anti-climatic. After previous experience with the DMV, I was prepared to be dodging land mines and stuff. I feel seriously let down, but I am still glad it was just a cakewalk.
I have been sketching (in charcoal) since break began. The charcoal gets all over everything. I have made it my goal for the summer to draw at least one face a day and, so far, I have chosen several good lookin' and well-known guys (like the heavenly Gerard Way) as my subjects. I have done female faces using grids, but I am trying to wean myself off of that and use only the nature of the face. I still have much to learn about portraiture, but practice will make close to perfect.
I spent the last week at the beach. It was an interesting experience with interesting people, who woke up at interesting times, and said very interesting things. Interesting is such a good substitute word. I recovered from the event by purchasing two Fall Out Boy posters and an MCR shirt. Shopping is highly therapeutic. I am also sleeping in tomorrow, so that should help me with any leftover stress.
Saturday is studio day. All day silversmithiness. I hope to make a pendant. My aunt helps me with everything and lets me dig through all her little stones and pieces of silver. I am so excited! Maybe I'll post a picture (granted I figure out how to do that.)
Wow, it's amazing how much I can write! Well, back to sketching, reading, and maybe some televised distraction.
Aloha!
